Overview

Pearls of Wisdom is a non-profit, tax exempt association dedicated to initiating and enhancing Israeli advances in Nanotechnology. The Association was inspired by the vision of Mr. Shimon Peres, the President of Israel, who foresaw the importance of Nanotechnology for Israel's future. We share his view that close, ongoing cooperation between Academia and Industry is needed for the country's sustainable future economic growth. It is our mission to build and promote an innovative Nanotechnology-based infrastructure in order to guarantee the continuing technological excellence that will ensure Israel's future.

Since its establishment in 2006, the Association has gathered scholars from the worlds of Academia and Finance, Public and Private Industry, and the Defense sectors - representing a unique mix of academic and business knowledge and experience. These vast human resources are being leveraged in the accomplishment of our mission - fostering the Research Incentive Program that is designed for Israeli Nanotechnology researchers and directed by leading figures from Israel's universities and research institutions. These researchers will help lay a solid foundation for the country's economy, enabling it to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Our Objectives

  • Endorse, design, and promote academic research in fields related to Nanotechnology,
    micro-electro-mechanical systems, and micro-technologies
  • Initiate cross-university and interdisciplinary research programs
  • Encourage collaboration between Israel and the international community in Nanotechnology-
    related research and development initiatives

Management

The Pearls of Wisdom Association is constructed as a "Not for Profit Organization". It is managed efficiently and professionally by a General Assembly and a Managing Committee comprised of representatives of Israel's leading academic institutions and prominent industry experts. The Association's activities are overseen and carefully monitored by leading law and accounting firms.

The General Assembly provides high-level management for the Association, setting the guidelines for its activities. The Managing Committee establishes the Working Committees, selects their members, and approves the Work Plan and the Budget. The Administration works closely with the Managing Committee, controls the budget, monitors the goals, formalizes legal agreements with academic institutions, and reports to the Justice Ministry's Registrar.

Working Committees - composed of leading experts from research institutes and the industry, as well as a technical representative of the Pearls of Wisdom Association - each focus on one of the Association's activities. The Chairman of each Committee is a member of the Managing Committee, and its members are fully involved with the status of the technology research (in Israel and globally). The responsibilities of each Committee are to issue a call for research proposals, to evaluate the proposals, and at the end of the process, to select the proposal that will be funded by the Association.
